"Perceptions" Dean Inserra How are Christians perceived by those who are not believers? I cannot think of a more important and relevant question for anyone who takes the spreading of the Gospel seriously. The sad truth is that theunchurched world sees Christians as living differently than they claim to believe. In fact, they basically don't take us seriously at all. A recent survey was conducted asking those who are not in Church to express their view of Christians. 70% of those surveyed indicated that their opinion of Christians is unfavorable. This is a statistic that we must take very seriously if we want to have a significant impact on Tallahassee. The interesting thing about the survey is the reasons the people gave for not liking Christians. They claimed that Christians are judgmental, hypocritical, out of touch with culture, and only care about forcing their views onto others. Throughout the next month at the Well, we are going to look at this perception that the unchurched world has towards Christians and figure out a solution to this serious problem together. I can't help but notice that those who were considered "outsiders" when it came to the kingdom of God mostly liked Jesus and gathered around whenever he spoke. However, today they are no longer listening to what we have to say. This week we will be having our Sunday service at 11:00am due to the Super Bowl. My hope is that those in the Well family will carry out the vision of our Church by attending Super Bowl parties with those who are not Christians. Maybe from spending the evening with you their perception of Christians will become more positive. I look forward to seeing you at Godby High School this Sunday morning as we begin our new series called "The Perception." |
