"Where Do I Begin?"

Dean Inserra

It is the Wednesday after Easter and I am still amazed by the evening we spent together at the Moon. Everything I have been begging God to let happen in Tallahassee was taking place right before my eyes. It was a very special moment for Matthew, Cari, Scott, and myself to walk out from praying backstage and see the entire building full of people.  I hope this was also a special evening for all of you as our vision for reaching our city with the Gospel was in full force.  We also had some very unexpected things happen and I want to thank the entire family of the Well for how you handled what took place.  After an exciting gathering at the Moon, where do we go from here?

My challenge to everyone is to approach every Sunday night at Godby High School with the same enthusiasm you brought to Easter on the Moon. I would also use everything we experienced this past Sunday night to continue conversations with your unchurched friends who joined you for Easter.

Here are a few things that I have been doing to continue the conversation with my friends:

1. Discuss Lindsay Knipple’s story: In a world where people are looking for satisfaction and fulfillment in every place imaginable, Lindsay's story is one of someone who found it in Jesus Christ.  Anyone who knows Lindsay personally will immediately agree that she understands the Gospel.  Why?  Because she experienced it personally.  On any given Sunday night there are people all over the auditorium at Godby that are exactly where Lindsay was before she put her hope into Jesus Christ.  Her story must be told again and again.  If we are all honest, we all have similar stories of how Christ saved us that must be told.

2. Discuss the Baseball Bat/90mph fastball illustration: In every area of life we opt for the undeniable instead of dwelling on the unexplainable.  The story of Christ healing the blind man in John 9 is a sad, but relevant story of people denying the work of Christ taking place right in front of them.  We discussed how all of us have a "God box."  What does yours look like and how is your view of God affected by it?

3. Discuss why we went to the Moon: In the book of Acts you read about Paul going into the main cultural center of Athens to proclaim the Gospel.  Nowhere in the New Testament is Church about a building, sophistication, dressing or cleaning up.  Those are all cultural aspects of a "Church" that were added many years after the New Testament was written.  Meeting at the Moon showed all of us that God is about connecting people who are far from him.  The amazing thing is that when you look at the life of Jesus, he went to the PLACES where those people were willing and likely to go.

We are back at Godby High School this Sunday at 5:30.  I will be starting a series called "Losing My Religion" based on the book of Galatians.  I have also launched my blog this week at
deaninserra.com and would love for you to check it out to see my daily thoughts on life, culture, church and truth. We are about to see God do amazing things in Tallahassee.  Easter on the Moon was only the beginning.
