"exactly what He expected"

Jen Sinclair

i like to think that i'm a sincere person.
definitely more so now that i am a Christian,
but even before that, i’d still like to believe that i             have been genuine all my life.

but i have learned something…
that regardless of the way Christ calls me to view and
accept other people,
i cannot keep them from judging and stereotyping me...
and i've heard the phrase,
"you're nothing like i thought you were..."
more times than i honestly care to count.

it's like someone looked me in the eye, and said, "i've
judged you, said some really shady things about you and
promised myself i'd never be your friend..."

wow.

then one day i started thinking,
"i wonder how many times Jesus heard that
            phrase..?"

throughout His entire ministry,
people constantly doubted Him,
            judged Him,
talked about Him behind His back...

but He was THE LIVING GOD!

His sole purpose on earth was to LOVE us and TEACH us
the ways of God.
...to make us FOLLOWERS of Him.

He knew who He was.
and He knew what He was called to do.
so, if i'm claiming to be one of His followers,
            then...
i should be secure enough to embrace who i am
and what He has called me called to do.

Jesus never conformed to fit other people's ideas.
His story never changed.
His purpose never faltered.
and no matter how many people judged Him,
said shady things about Him behind His back,
or swore never to be His friend,
            He continued to love.

so, it no longer bothers me when people tell me that i'm
a lot different than they expected.
i've realized that i am the person God designed me to be.
He created me this way.
i was made in His image,
and i am EXACTLY what He expected.
