"What If"

by Jen Simmons

I was 23 when I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Praise the Lord for saving me and calling me His child and loving me exactly where I was…broken and in need of Him! Do I wish I had to come to know Him earlier? Absolutely! Only the Lord knew my heart and when I was ready to give my life over to Him, so I trust that the Lord had a perfect plan all along.

BUT…I can’t help but wonder what heartache I could have been saved from? What horrible decisions did I make that I could have avoided? What joyful and purposeful life could I have begun years before if I had only known…?

I cannot help but think that what if someone in one of my classes…someone I met in the student union…in the gym…at the library…at a football game…someone out in the town…anyone…had actually made an effort to hang out with me and share the Truth they knew…the Truth of Jesus Christ.

It grieves me to write this, but in my experience at FSU, not one, I repeat, NOT ONE person shared with me about Jesus during my college years. What if someone had shared? My life could have been radically different.

What if the Well shared Jesus across this city?

What if those that are students reached out and shared with others?

What if people loved their co-workers at their jobs?

God is the author of Salvation, but He wants to use you and me to bring people to the saving knowledge of Christ! I am thankful for my testimony and have faith that the Lord knows what He is doing, but I cannot help but think how beautiful it would have been to have known my Savior years before.

What if it was the hope of each individual at the Well to be a part of someone’s coming to know Christ?

What if it was our hearts’ desires to love people?

What if we let His love for us motivate our actions and conversations?

What if we could be bold in sharing the Truth of Christ to the people we met?

What if?

(Originally from Jacksonville, Lawton Graves will begin his second year of law school this fall at The Florida State University.)
