"Summertime"

by Dean Inserra

Summertime means lots of things to different people. To the high school student it means no school and riding around town with friends. To the parent it means trying to keep everyone busy and registered for as many camps as one can afford. Summertime means sunscreen, lots of water, family trips, and cook-outs. To the Pastor is usually means inconsistent attendance on Sundays!

When I think of summer I think of baseball. I look forward to the game the entire off-season and can't get enough of it when it finally arrives. The halfway point of the season officially comes next week with the All Star game. You can bet that I will be parked on the couch. Baseball is also something I use to build relationships with people. Talking baseball is my thing and it usually leads to more important conversations once the ice is broken and people realize that you don't sit home and read all day while listening to Hymns.

I also think of great "coming of age" songs that come out on the radio. Kenny Chesney becomes a lot more appealing to me in the summer.

I also think the summer can be a great season for growth in the lives of Christians.

This Sunday we begin a new series at the Well titled, "On My Summer Vacation I..." We will cover different areas of the Christian life. I am looking forward to getting back to speaking weekly at the Well starting this Sunday when we will talk about the importance of reading our Bibles. We will cover everything from what God says about his own Word to how we can read Scripture more effectively. "On My Summer Vacation I…" will be a six-week series. I will be speaking five of those weeks with Marty Stubblefield speaking one week. Marty leads one of our Adult Community Groups at the Well and does a wonderful job. It will be a treat to hear him speak at the Well.

Last Sunday was Scott Simmons final service as our Worship Leader. Scott is my good friend and I am eternally grateful for the major role he played in starting the Church. An unknown fact about Scott is that he came up with the name of our Church. He also coined the phrase ”Everlasting Truth, Ever-Changing Culture" that became the mission of the Well. He is also a great Worship Leader and will be missed in that area of ministry. Thankfully, Scott, Jen, and Karsyn will remain an active part of our Church community and serve in other ministry roles. Rachel Boeselt will begin her ministry as our Worship Leader this Sunday night. Rachel rocks and our Church family will love her. Rachel is from Houston, Texas and is a graduate of Mary Hardin-Baylor University. We are excited about her being with us at the Well. Maybe she can make us some Texas Beef Brisket.

I hope to see you this Sunday Night at Godby High School. It will be a great end to a holiday weekend. Also, special shout-out to the big wedding this weekend. Congrats to Lawton Graves and Sarah Scruggs.

WELCOME, RACHEL!
As we kick off a new summer series this Sunday, we also welcome the Well's new Worship Leader, Rachel Boeselt.

Rachel has been singing classically and in worship bands for many years. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in vocal performance at Florida State University. In addition to leading worship at the Well, she also teaches private voice lessons out of her home.
