"Two Little Thumbs Up" Scott Simmons You can learn a lot from a newborn. One would think that the parent would be the one doing all of the teaching, but so far, I’ve been doing a lot more learning. As I sit and type this article, I have a baby in my lap, a pacifier in my hand, and a grin on my face, partly because Karsyn’s pushing out another diaper full, but also because I’m starting to understand how much she needs me. Without her parents, she has no food, no clothing, no warmth, no clean pants... you name it, she needs it. I continue to be amazed at how any single parent could survive in these conditions (and I know we have a few of you courageous souls in our own congregation). See, without us, she goes no where. Without her parents, she remains in exactly the same state. What a massive responsibility we have to keep her healthy, growing, and maturing into the lady we hope she one day becomes. The church is no different. Without each other, we will fall flat on our faces and go nowhere in our mission to reach Tallahassee for Christ. Romans 12:4-7 says this: “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.” This passage gives us no excuse for not plugging into the local church. We ARE responsible for each other, and we NEED each other to survive as the Well. Are you still on the fringes? Have you mentally, physically, spiritually, financially, and verbally committed to the local church? Is there someone close to you that needs our community? Consider letting God and the people called the Well join your family. If you need more proof, we’ll let you babysit. (Scott Simmons is the Well's worship leader.) |
