"Bust Out the Jacket" Dean Inserra The decade of the 80s often gets unfairly knocked around by our hip selves of the 21st century. What a great time! Who can forget the years that brought us The Karate Kid, close to 25 Michael J. Fox movies, and The Cosby Show? The 80s were also a great decade for music. Don't deny walking around like an Egyptian when you were eight years old, or knowing every lyric of every song on the New Kids "Hangin Tough" album. Perhaps the claim to fame of the 80s from a pop culture angle is the fashion. One thing that sticks out to me is the legendary "Members Only" jacket. I am not sure why these jackets were such a big deal. They were very plain and cheap looking, but for some reason they were the jacket to have (think about starter jackets and brownings during our middle school years). I am not quite sure what they meant by members only, but Michael Jackson wore won! Unfortunately, many churches today give the impression to the non-Christian world that they have a members only policy. That is the opposite approach that we take at the Well. My desire as your Pastor is to see the least likely person to attend church walk through our door and feel loved by everyone they meet. While the Well is not a country club with a members only sign out front, members are certainly wanted and needed. Christians committing to a local Church and using it to impact Tallahassee is the means by which our city will be reached. We are looking for individuals who are ready to put on their members jacket and officially join the Well as their Church home. Church hoppers do not have time to change the world. They have too many Bible studies to attend to worry about the lost city of Tallahassee. This Sunday we will have our first ever membership meetings. Meetings will be held at 4:30 and immediately following the service. These meetings will be at Godby and please attend the one that is most convenient for you. What an exciting time to be at the Well! Let's commit together to reach our city with the love of Christ. Interested in becoming a member of The Well Church? Join Dean and Scott this Sunday at either 4:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. at Godby for a time of questions, answers, and information regarding becoming a member. WELL WEEKEND Mark your calendars for November 3-4 as we gather to watch the FSU vs. Boston College game at Logan's Steakhouse at 7:00 p.m. on Satruday, and on Sunday night celebrate the release of Scott Simmons' new cd: The Hymns Album. COMMUNITY GROUP DINNER PARTY Join us on Wednesday, November 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Mellow Mushroom on Pensacola Street for a time to eat and hang out. If you're interested in joining a community group or if you're already in one, make plans to attend! CHRISTMAS PARTY Save the date! The Well's Christmas party is scheduled for Tuesday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. at Paradigm. More info next week!
